Trans-Siberian Orchestra Unveils Its 2011 Holiday Tour Schedule

You always know the holidays are almost nearly just around the corner from being here when the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) unveils their annual holiday tour itinerary.

Well, guess what? The band recently released their Christmas season touring schedule—it came out earlier this month. So that means there’s only 90 shopping days left until TSO hits the road (by the way, I’m a 34 regular).

The Yule Tide fun gets underway Nov. 11 in Council Bluffs, Iowa and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The tour’s final performances are set for Dec. 30 in both Glendale, Arizona and Cleveland, Ohio.

As you probably already surmised, TSO splits itself into two touring groups. One handles the East Coast and the other gets the West and Midwest. Together, they will play 118 shows in nearly 70 cities throughout November and December. To perform that many concerts in such a short period of time, the two TSO teams have scheduled matinee and evenings concerts in most of the cities they visit.

As always, fan club members get first crack at Trans-Siberian Orchestra tickets. Prices range from $25 to $60.

For their upcoming 2011 outing, TSO will play their debut album, the holiday rock opera Christmas Eve and Other Stories (1996), in its entirety. In addition, TSO will rock selections from their imminent project, Gutter Ballet and the New York Blues Express.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s first holiday tour was unwrapped way back in 1999. Since that time the orchestra has consistently ranked inside the top ten in both concert revenue and concert attendance. In total, TSO has played to over 8 million fans in more than 80 different cities. Their special effects laden live shows have generated revenues in excess of $325 million.

In February of 2012, TSO will launch another tour but this time they’ll perform their non-holiday rock opera, Beethoven’s Last Night. The opus is a fictional look at what could have happened on the final night of the composer’s life.

TSO was founded in 1993 by producer Paul O’Neil. Besides its powerful live shows, the group is also known for combining classical and symphonic elements with heavy metal music. That may not sound very Christmassy, but as you can tell by their aforementioned achievements, they know how to make it work.

Besides Christmas Eve and Other Stories and Beethoven’s Last Night, TSO has also released The Christmas Attic (1998), The Lost Christmas Eve (2004), and Night Castle (2009).
