Sugarland Concerts Equal Pure Fun

Sugarland Concerts Equal Pure Fun

Earlier this year, a man who had been waiting since 6am for Sugarland tickets to the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia was told by an angry crowd that he had to go to the end of the line. According to reports, the man was berated and bullied by the hostile horde.

The mob told the man that they had been there before he arrived but were sleeping in their cars.

The staff took the side of the angry throng and told the man to vacate his spot in line. The man acquiesced after police explained that the arena is private property and if he didn’t comply with the staff’s request he would be arrested.

To make sure the incident doesn’t happen again, authorities at the James Brown Arena will create a starting point for fans to line up and purchase concert tickets.

This was probably one of the few occasions that a bad time has ever been associated with a Sugarland concert.

The duo, Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, are currently in the middle of their Incredible Machine Tour. Sugarland is performing all over the United States this summer including gigs in Los Angeles, Kansas City, Indianapolis, and Las Vegas.

Reviews of their concerts are all saying roughly the same thing: Sugarland puts on one hell of an entertaining show.

Gary Graff of The Daily Tribune (Nashville) wrote in his review of the duo’s July 9 performance at the DTE Energy Music Theatre: “For 90 minutes Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush played for fun with a capital F-U-N, rarely missing an opportunity to show off a little goofy choreography or get up close and personal with their fans.”

At one point during the concert the band gave away an autographed guitar.

Concert reviewer Eric Volmers of the Calgary Herald attended Sugarland’s July 15 concert at The Saddledome and observed: “…the Atlanta duo proved to be cunning experts at pushing the buttons of a partyready crowd.”

The other observations critics are making is about the type of music Sugarland is playing. Basically, they’re no longer throwing hoedowns; they’re throwing parties.

“This show wasn’t country, rock or pop. Perhaps the best description was simple musical fun,” wrote Erik Ernst of Milwaukee’s Journal Sentinel. He was referring to Sugarland’s July 9 show at the Marcus Amphitheater.

Sugarland, who once dominated the country charts, is evolving into an exuberance amalgamation of several musical genres. They might not be moving music forward, but they’re definitely broadening their appeal.

Their setlist reflects this transformation. On their Incredible Machine Tour they’ve been covering non-country acts like Cee Lo Green, Britney Spears, Neil Diamond, and Destiny’s Child.

They also tackle Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ classic song, “Come on Eileen.” They perform that catchy ditty with their supporting act Sara Bareilles.

Bottom line, Sugarland is no longer attracting just country music fans, they’re attracting music fans who just want to have a good time.
