Rihanna, Cee Lo Brown Add J. Cole To ‘Loud Tour’

Rihanna, Cee Lo Brown Add J. Cole To ‘Loud Tour’

Rihanna got it all backwards.

At the 2011 Billboard Music Awards the singer kissed Britney Spears and snubbed Justin Bieber.

Looking at the current careers of those two artists, it would have been much wiser to have kissed Bieber and snubbed Spears.

To recap, RiRi and Britney opened the Billboard Music Awards with a performance of “S&M.” That’s Rihanna’s fourth single from her 2010 album, “Loud.” After the number was over the pair kissed.

Now, before you get all hot and bothered the smooched seemed neither planned nor did it seem like it was meant to titillate. Rihanna just grabbed Britney’s and gave her a friendly peck on the cheek, as if to say, “nice performance.”

While the show was going on, 17-year-old Justin Bieber tried to speak with Rihanna on five separate occasions but was rebuked each time by her body guards. Why the muscle stopped Justin from speaking to Rihanna is anyone’s guess. Nevertheless, Bieber and Rihanna did have a conversation and according to those where who there their chat did not sit well with Justin’s girlfriend Selena Gomez.

In more serious Rihanna news, the R&B singer recently performed on The Today Show. During her performance of “S&M,” she walked along a fenced barricade and was grabbed by a crazed fan who wanted a kiss or a hug (I’ve found conflicting reports).

RiRi didn’t miss a beat—literally. She kept singing as her backup dancers pulled her to safety. Rihanna calmly returned to the stage and finished her set like a pro.

Yes, she was fine, and the fan may have been more on the excited side than on the crazy side, but neither of those suppositions should diminish the seriousness of what happened. Just as spectators shouldn’t run onto the field during ballgames, music fans shouldn’t grab performers.

Hopefully nothing like that happens on Rihanna’s upcoming “Loud Tour.” The North American leg of her highly anticipated 2011 trek begins June 4 with a Rihanna concert in Baltimore at the 1st Mariner Arena. Her tour ends July 24 with a Rihanna show in Boston at TD Garden.

Fans can also catch Rihanna in Houston on July 9 and Rihanna in Chicago on July 15.

Joining her for the entire trek is Grammy Award winner Cee Lo Green. Not only is Green a top notch performer but he’s a major draw in his own right. Tapping him to be on the marquee should really bolster the sale of Rihanna tickets.

In 2010, Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth Tour,” was plagued by sluggish sales and low interest. Of course, it also featured singer-rapper, Ke$ha (she could sink a U2 tour).

Needless to say, Cee Lo Green is a huge step up from the trampy “Tik Tok” singer.

Recently, Rihanna announced that she and Cee Lo will be joined by Roc Nation artist, J. Cole. The rapper’s first album is set to drop sometime later this year.

“I”m excited to be heading out with Rihanna on the North American leg of her Loud Tour,” explained Cole. “I have high respect for both Ri Ri and Cee Lo, and I appreciate the opportunity to perform in front of an audience as large and diverse as theirs.”

Highlights of their itinerary include a Rihanna and Cee Lo Green show in Los Angeles on June 28, a Rihanna and Cee Lo Green concert in Dallas on July 8, a Rihanna and Cee Lo Green gig in East Rutherford on July 21, and a Rihanna and Cee Lo Green performance in Philadelphia on July 23.

At the time of writing this article Rihanna had confirmed 28 dates with more coming.
