Sade To Release “The Ultimate Collection,” Perform at Montreal International Jazz Festival

Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. If you don’t believe that trite sentiment may I direct your attention to Sade.

The iconic jazz-pop fusion band from the 1980’s released Lovers Rock in 2000 and then embarked on the “Lovers Live Tour” the following year.

After that, the band basically dropped off the face of the planet until the release of their sixth studio album, Solider of Love, in early 2010. The quartet will soon support that aforementioned Grammy Award winning opus with a world tour.

Their global trek begins in late April with a series of dates in Europe. Fans in the U.S. and Canada will start using their Sade tickets on June 16 in Baltimore, Maryland. Right now there are nearly 50 Sade concerts planned including shows in Philadelphia, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, and Los Angeles. Their North American leg ends September 3 with a Sade concert in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Opening for the English foursome is six-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, John Legend.

It’s not that people weren’t fond of Sade before—the band has sold over 50 million albums worldwide and her 2001 outing drew over a 1,000,000 fans—but it seems that their nearly decade-long hiatus has given everyone Sade-fever. The upcoming Sade tour is one of the hottest concert tickets of the year and you can’t visit a music news Web site without seeing Sade’s name in a headline or two.

Not every band can afford to walk away from the spotlight for a decade (although I can think of a couple I’d like to see try), but the time away has done nothing but wonders for Sade’s popularity.

To capitalize on this apparent “Sade-mania,” the band is releasing another greatest hits album, The Ultimate Collection, on May 3. The two-disc, 29-track compilation contains 15 more songs than their 1994 “Best of” album. The “collection” also features four never-before-heard Sade tracks: “The Moon and the Sky (Remix),” “Still in Love with You,” “Love is Found,” and “I Would Have Never Guessed.”

“The Moon and the Sky” was remixed by Roc Nation founder Jay-Z. The track originally appeared on the Solider of Love album but the Ultimate Collection version features Jay-Z on the mic. Their collaboration with Hova marks the first time Sade has ever worked with a hip-hop artist. The remixed track was produced by Noah “40” Shebib.

If you still can’t get enough of Sade (and who can really), you can always download Dirty Money’s cover of “No Ordinary Love,” Sade’s classic single from 1992. Dirty Money, Sean Combs’ latest endeavor, is giving away the single (and for good reason).

Sade and John Legend tickets are also being sold to the Montreal International Jazz Festival, also known as Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.

Both Sade and John Legend have been tapped to perform at the 32nd incarnation of one of the world’s largest jazz festivals. Also on the marquee are Robert Plant and Band of Joy, Peter Frampton, and Diana Krall. Sade and Legend’s festival appearance is scheduled for June 30 at the Bell Centre.
