New Kids On The Block, Backstreet Boys Announce Collaborative 2011 Tour

What’s better than a boy band?

How about two boy bands?

New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys have revealed the first five dates of their joint summer outing, the NKOTBSB Tour.

How awesome is that name? To create the acronym “NKOTBSB” both bands’ initials were used but they combined the last “B” in “New Kids on the Block” with the first “B” of “Backstreet Boys” so there’s only a single “B.”

Simply. Genius.

We first heard of this historic tour on Nov. 3. That’s when members from each band dropped a knowledge bomb on the Ryan Seacrest radio show. Due to the magic of modern technology we only had to wait five days for specific details to emerge.

The Kids and the Boys launch their summer trek June 9 in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre and wrap July 1 in Los Angeles at Staples Center (see their itinerary below).

New Kids and Backstreet Boys tickets go on sale to the respective fan clubs on Nov. 12. Public sale of NKOTBSB Tour tickets begin Nov. 19.

Air Canada and Staples are major venues and indicative of the kind of places the bands are schedule to sell concert tickets. Basically, this isn’t your father’s New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys tour. The heartthrobs are set to play some of North America’s “A” list venues.

To put it another way, NKOTBSB ain’t visiting state fairs and small town arenas, y’all.

And why not? The “Ks” on the “B” have not only released a successful comeback album, The Block, they’ve also launched successful comeback tours in 2008 and 2009.

The double-Bs have also been down the comeback trail, albeit with less success. They toured in 2008, released an album in 2009, This is Us, and then toured again in 2010.

If you can’t wait until Jun 9 to get you KNOTBSB fix, you can watch them perform live at this year’s American Music Awards on Nov. 21. According to each band, it will be “their first joint televised appearance.”

For those keeping score at home, Kevin Richardson left The Back-S Boys in 2006 and will not be participating in the 2011 tour.
