Cruise, Rogen, Swift Pursued For Roles in ‘Rock of Ages’ Film

According to Deadline.com, Tom Cruise has been offered the role of “Dennis” in the film version of Rock of Ages.

Don’t worry, it gets worse.

Observe and Report star Seth Rogen is reportedly being tapped to play “Lonny.”

Don’t worry, it gets even worse than that.

Apparently Taylor Swift is in discussion to play the lead, “Sherrie Christian.”

It can’t get much worse than that.

No word on who would sing for Swift. Land of Punt hears Marni Nixon is available. By the way, if the three aforementioned actors are cast, Swift will be the tallest.

The movie version of the Tony Nominated Rock of Ages will be directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray). The guy who wrote Rock of Ages’ book, Chris D’Arienzo, will write the script.

The flick is scheduled to start filming in January 2011 and released in 2012.

Rock of Ages is the ultra fun, big hair, Lycra-wearing, jukebox musical that’s set on the Sunset Strip in 1987. The production features songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake, and Foreigner.

If you recall, Rock of Ages turned “Don’t Stop Believing” into a Broadway show tune long before the television show Glee was even on the air.

Currently, the role of “Dennis” is being played by Twisted Sister frontman, Dee Snider.

Broadway superstar Amy Spanger originated the role of “Sherrie.” It’s now played by Emily Padgett.

The role of Lonny was originated by the great Mitchell Jarvis. He’s still in the production but is now playing the role of “Stacee Jaxx.”

The original cast also featured former American Idol contestant, Constantine Maroulis.

Rock of Ages runs at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The production opened on April 7, 2009.
