Prince: New York Area Welcomes ‘Welcome 2 America’ In December

A New York radio station recently announced that legendary Prince has scheduled five dates for his “Welcome 2 America” concert series.

The schedule has Prince in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Dec. 14, 15, and 17. He’ll perform at the Izod Center.

Then it’s Prince in New York City. The “purple one” travels across the Hudson River for two shows at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 18 and 29.

Public ticket sales for the series begin Oct. 30.

In mid-October at a press conference Prince said that a “series of events” would “begin on a purple day in December.” However, that’s all he said. Up until now the music world had no idea when “purple day” was or where Prince would celebrate it.

So what exactly is the “Welcome 2 America” concert series? Let’s have Prince explain it for us:

“Welcome 2 America is best described as what we’ve all been waiting for. I will serve as master of ceremonies for multiple nights of entertainment that will feature some of the best artists this country has to offer.”

The entertainment Prince referenced is, but not limited to: Maceo Parker, Janelle Monae, Mint Condition, Esperanza Spalding, and Cassandra Wilson.

Don’t worry, Prince and The New Power Generation will also perform.

“Without giving too much away, anyone that has ever been to one of our concerts…they know what time it is,” Prince said via a statement. “So you need to come early, you need to come often, because every time we play there’s always something new. No concert is ever the same.”

Right now, Prince is wrapping up a tour of Europe. He also has a Nov. 14 show scheduled for the United Arab Emirates.

At least we think he does.

Prince no longer has a web presence. He pulled his off the internet last year. So getting info about the Minneapolis-based musician is a little tricky.

It’s only fitting that Prince would use “2” instead of the word “to” in the name of his concert series, “Welcome 2 America”.

After all, Prince is the leader in using numbers and letters for words or parts of words in his albums and song titles.
