The Tiffany Network actually allowed Rob Zombie to direct an episode of CSI: Miami. The Zombiefied CSI aired March 1, 2010. It was written by Barry O’Brien.

The sixteenth episode of Season 8, called “L.A.,” was the fourth highest rated CSI: Miami of the season. It was seen by more than 14 million David Caruso fans.

This obvious wasn’t Zombie’s first time behind the lens but it was his first outing as a boob-tube director. Overall, his effort was strong. While there were marks of a stylish auteur there was enough straight forward storytelling to make a digestible television show.

The most noticeable aspect of Zombie’s direction was the frequent use of famous rock songs. Land of Punt also enjoyed the scene filmed at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Besides staring the usual CSI: Miami cast Zombie’s episode also featured Michael Madsen, Malcolm McDowell, William Forsythe, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top, Paul Blackthorne, and Sheri Moon Zombie, Rob’s wife.

Below is Land of Punt’s favorite clip from CBS’ highly rated procedural crime drama and intense-taking-on-and-off-of-sunglasses hour. The excerpt features Madsen at his most irrelevant.
