Rip Torn, Drunken Robber: It Was A Bank Geiss!

Actor Rip Torn, who recently appeared on 30 Rock portraying Don Geiss head of General Electric, was arrested on January 29th, 2010 for trying to rob a bank with a loaded firearm.

Police found Torn inside a Litchfield Bancorp in Salisbury, Connecticut. He was drunk and brandishing a loaded revolver. Among the chargers filed against the 78-year old boozehound are burglary and possession of a firearm without a permit.

Torn’s bail is set at $100,000 and he’s scheduled to appear in front of a judge on Monday.

This is Torn’s third arrest in four years. In December of 2006 and December of 2008 he was arrested for drunk driving. The 2006 incident involved Torn crashing into a tractor trailer.

While there were fines, suspensions, and probations levied neither incidence resulted in jail time. His latest drunken escapade will most assuredly earn him some time in the clink.

With arrests coming in winter months maybe Torn suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder? Or Maybe he’s just an incurable drunk.
