Alicia Keys Adds Dates To 2010’s ‘Freedom Tour’

R&B princess Alicia Keys has recently added several dates to her “Freedom Tour.” The jaunt, set to begin Feb. 28 in Montreal, now includes stops in Detroit, Baltimore, Miami, Tampa, Houston, and Atlanta.

The tour, which is scheduled to conclude April 9 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, is selling Alicia Keys concert tickets to support her fourth studio album, The Element of Freedom.

Released Dec. 11, the album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. It was unable to knock Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed A Dream from the top spot. Nonetheless, Keys’ album sold 417,000 copies in its first week on the proverbial record store shelves.

While she couldn’t usurp Boyle, her collaboration with Jay-Z, “Empire State of Mind,” is doing quite well. The ditty reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The song is featured on both artists’ latest releases. The original version appears on Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 and a remix appears on The Element of Freedom.

Keys has been very busy in November and December promoting both her work with Jay-Z and her latest studio offering. The 28-year-old New Yorker recently appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Late Show With David Letterman, and The Today Show. Keys also performed before Game 2 of the 2009 World Series.

Keys’ first two albums, Songs In A Minor and The Diary of Alicia Keys, sold over 20 million copies worldwide. In 2005, her MTV Unplugged album debut at number one making her the first female artist to achieve such a feat.

Despite her incredible records sales, her numerous television and movie appearances, and her multiple Grammy Awards, Keys greatest honor has to be appearing in a Bob Dylan song.

Keys’ name is heard in Dylan’s “Thunder on the Mountain.” It’s the first track off his 2006 album, Modern Times.

I was thinkin’ ’bout Alicia Keys, couldn’t keep from crying
When she was born in Hell’s Kitchen, I was living down the line
I’m wondering where in the world Alicia Keys could be
I been looking for her even clear through Tennessee

The song is based on Memphis Minnie’s “Ma Rainey.” Dylan changed the name “Ma Rainy” to “Alicia Keys” and substituted Rainey’s place of birth for “Hell’s Kitchen.”

While Land of Punt finds the inclusion of Keys’ name delightful, Rolling Stone magazine did not. They thought it was one of the ten weirdest “shout outs” of all-time.

LOP would kill to be mentioned in a Dylan song.

Alicia Keys is sure to have one of the top concerts of 2010.
