Celtic Woman’s ‘Songs From The Heart’ Drops Jan. 26

Celtic Woman’s Songs From The Heart

Celtic Woman will once again delight grandmothers, aunts, and women who own more than three cats the world over with their fifth album-DVD-television special, Songs from the Heart.

Their performance, which was featured on the PBS network during their insipid pledge drive (just run a commercial already), was filmed at Ireland’s historic Powerscourt House and Gardens in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. As the name implies the place is a total dump.

The women of Celtic Woman include Lisa Kelly, Chloe Agnew, Lynn Hilary, Alex Sharpe, and violinist Mairead Nesbitt. Amazingly they are all bridge and tunnel chicks.

Joining Celtic Woman on stage were the Aontas Choir, the Discovery Gospel Choir, the Extreme Rhythm Drummers, a bagpipe ensemble, Eminem, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and Klaus Nomi.

Men and women who enjoy Celtic Woman but missed them on PBS can experience the beauty of Songs from the Heart on DVD and CD. The combo drops Jan. 26—just in time for Christmas.

The DVD is the same concert that aired on PBS. The compact disc contains studio recordings of a new batch of songs, nearly all of which they performed in concert. The DVD also features a behind-the-scenes documentary as well as a segment called Celtic Woman Gone Wild (it doesn’t that’s just wishful thinking).

The DVD-CD combo, as well as their relationship with PBS, has been CW’s modus operandi since they were created by David Downes in 2004. Nowadays, Downs produces their albums and serves as the group’s musical director for live performances.

If you need more of the women from Celtic Woman you’re in the luck. In 2010, Celtic Woman will be launching a 75-date tour to support Songs from the Heart. The trek is set to begin Feb. 9 in Roanoke and will wrap up May 22 in Salt Lake City.

Fans who pledged to their local PBS station got first crack at Celtic Woman tickets which are currently on sale. You would have to be one desperate Celtic Woman fan to donate to PBS just for some ducats. Land of Punt wouldn’t give money to public television if they let us have a first crack at the women of Celtic Woman.

Designed to capitalize on the success of Michael Flatley’s Riverdance (of which Downs was musical director) as well as the structure and appeal of all-girl groups like Spice Girls and Pussycat Dolls, Celtic Woman have released five albums and completed several world tours. They have sold over 50 million albums worldwide as well as seven concert t-shirts.
