Glee Songs For December 9, Season 1 Episode 13 ‘Sectionals’

Trivia question: The song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is from what Rolling Stones album?

There were three big happenings on the 13th and the final Glee episode before a long hiatus (typical Fox Network). One, Finn found out the father of Quinn’s baby is actually Puck. Two, New Directions wins regionals. And three, Mr. Schuester kissess Ms. Pillsbury.

Finn learning that he’s not Quinn’s baby’s father was not handled well (then again, the episode was plagued with poor directing). Coming out of a break we see Finn pummeling Puck. It was very odd for such a huge plot point to suddenly present itself after a Craftsmen advert.

Sadly, the Finn-Quinn-Puck storyline withered.

Musically, the episode began with Mercedes belting out the classic “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dreamgirls.

Land of Punt believed that Amber Riley’s performance was the best single performance ever on Glee. That is until Lea Michelle tackled “Don’t Rain on My Parade” from Funny Girl.

While Rachel was singing if every hair on your neck wasn’t standing on end you’re a robot.

“Don’t Rain on My Parade” was performed at sectionals. It was immediately followed by “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” The number was some of Glee’s best work. It was quite emotional. If you managed to maintain a dry eye throughout you’re robot.

The episode closed with Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” performed in their rehearsal room. It wasn’t spectacular but it was quintessential Glee–one part sentimental, one part talent.

Our favorite line of the night was uttered by Britney (who looked stunning at sectionals by the way) as her and Santana walked down the hall…

Santana: “Sex is not dating.”
Britney: “If it were Santana and I would be dating.”

Our other favorite part of the episode was the judges’ deliberation. While the kids fretted over every aspect of the contest, the judges displayed nothing but disdain and apathy. They completely undermined the competition’s importance–just how it would happen in real life.

LOP also enjoyed the beauty pageant judge mocking the deaf school and the Ohio comptroller judge proclaiming she had never even heard of a show choir. Surely both rants were the show teasing its critics.
